7月29日 Breaking Up: An Eye OpenerBreaking up isn't always so bad in some cases; sometimes it's a relief, even an eye-opener into the real feelings of a relationship. Most of the time after a breakup, everybody cries and mopes around for about two weeks until they can come to grips with the change in their life, but sometimes, resentments from the past have built up so high, breaking up is like a relief valve on a tank that's about to blow.
Immediately after the breakup, both parties start acting like they want to act, without the pressure behind it, and it often surprises the other partner. Suddenly there's more happiness than before, more jokes, more energy....that's the word ... energy.
They both start wondering why they couldn't have been so happy while they were together. Well, the answer was right in front of them all the time: they weren't into the relationship.
When that happens, you know the breakup was warranted. Pick up the pieces and walk away.
Like I always say: "Life is short... go faster", and in this case, run! 7月17日 Freelance: What Is That?Without a doubt, being a writer is one of life's greatest thrills. You observe the world, write about it, and get feedback from readers who either love you or hate you. Either way, the second you write something, you become immortal, as long as what you write is stored in some involatile way, and the coolest thing about it all is you actually get paid for it.
Amazing. Money for words. How cool is that?
There is a big big problem with being a writer, and it's this: Unless it's a blog, you don't get to write what you want!
You think writers get to just write whatever comes to their mind and actually get paid for it?
Nope.
The writer's boss is his editor. That editor becomes the mamma....that ever-watching purveyor of information and desires of the magazine or newspaper. The editor tells the writer what to write and writers write it.
The writer lives and dies by the whims of the editor. Period. Creativity? Oh, sure, the writer must maintain his skill as a creative artist of informative entertainment, but it has to be the subject and content his editor demands, or the writer will suddenly see his lifeline of money suddenly cut off.
I firmly believe that a writer isn't really a writer until he has experienced this. It makes a believer of you. When the money stops coming in, the writer suddenly realizes where his writing skills must take him...to the editor's every desire and leave the real free writing for the blog that no one reads (at least, no one seems to read mine). I guess the editor is right about what people want to read.
Is the writer free to write whatever he wants? Sure. In blogs. But if you want to get paid as an author, you write whatever the editor says to write.
It sort of makes the term "freelance" a nebulous term, doesn't it? |
