3月31日 Lifestyles and suchBeing accepted by others distracts from what we feel about ourselves. We are so preoccupied by what others are going to say behind our back, we fail to live for ourselves, sometimes. It's hard not to get caught in this trap.
I was watching some of the students the other day as one girl walked by. I could tell by the way they looked at her they didn't like her. They didn't like her clothes or anything else. The girl was self-conscious and stayed to herself.
Later, I wondered why the girl didn't try to conform to the group a little bit better, and then I realized: conforming to that group would be superficial. Belonging to the group may have given her a bit more confidence and a security of belonging, but when I thought about it, that group was doing nothing positive but just hangin' around. The girl was involved in a lot of activities to improve herself.
In the end, you never know how it's going to turn out in life. I guess you just have to wing it and go your own way, choose the direction you want, and keep focused. It's the best any of us can ask of ourselves. 3月13日 Vocabulary Quiz Advance NoticeHere's the list for the vocabulary quiz on Wednesday. If you find this, you have the advantage. You win. Go for it!

Ted 3月1日 The Robots Are ComingThe Robot Challenge is a contest for students of robotics to make a lot of money. This year in November, DARPA, the research branch of the US military, is giving away another $2-million for the team that can build a robotic car capable of traversing a 60-mile course of the city on its own. It has to obey all of the traffic rules, not crash, and make it to a designated spot in the city (simulated) within a couple of hours.
What's this all about?
You can e-mail me or leave a comment if you're interested. I can get you started on learning about building and programming robotic devices.
