THE BIZ BLOG

Beginning today, this blog will be focused on the building of my new business in America.

Every few days, I'll outline in brief what I do and how I do it.  It'll no doubt be full of trials and tribulations in the process of throwing together an empire.  Yes, I'm prepared.

Here are some of the businesses I'm planning to open.
  • a gym
  • a car lot
  • a motorcycle store
  • a chain of hot dog stands in California

Watch, and laugh as I hit walls and crash many times.

Finally the Freedom to Talk

Finally, as I approach the end of my stay in China, I'm going to say what I really feel.  Whoah....you thought I was already too brash!

Next Friday is my last day in this godforsaken world.  For me, it's about 5 years too late.  I lost a lot of money being here.  Any advantages?  hmmmm.....a few.  Mostly in broadcasting.

Ying Ying and I had "money" talks, as I call them, yesterday, and as always, I am totally focused on making money.  Money is power....period.  As she was talking to CCTV and SMG about Sound Of Country, this fact has never been more evident.  The Chinese way of doing business is "screw everyone in any way we can".  It doesn't seem to matter about future business relationships.  The Chinese attitude persistently, the whole time I have been here, in every case, has been the same:  "cheat, cheat, and cheat again, until we have completely screwed the customer over in as many ways as we can".  The bottom line is, if you have the power of size and money, you win the game.  Honesty is a virtue unknown to the Chinese business person.  I will try not to do business with the Chinese in the future.  And, I will influence others to do the same.

Where can America do business?  South America and Latin America.  They are the next China, anyway.  Even China recognizes this and is trying to find ways to control them.

"The TEACH"

I'll start calling myself "The Teach".  This actually came from a movie by the same name, but for now, I think I'll adopt it for myself as a funny nickname for all of my former college students.

On with the normal blog....

Let's talk about the trip back to the states.

It will be a business venture and, of course, my normal dangerous adventures outside of the business world that I'll be talking about on this blog in the future, and you can all follow along to laugh, cry, and participate.  I expect you all to participate by reading and commenting.  Okay?

I'm in the planning stages now, and if you want to follow along with what I do, stay tuned to this website and blog.  I will also do some things on the MySpace website, which may be blocked in China, and also the Yahoo! 360 site, called Singleforce.

Here's a list of some of the goals.
     1.  Set up a company for marketing other company's products.
     2.  Develop an automotive company in California, including cars and motorcycles.
     3.  Take advantage of the real estate decline in the US and start buying land and buildings for commercial use.
     4.  Finish another book by June of 2008 for publication in China and the US.

In order to accomplish any goal, as I have tought you, you must put the plan into action.  To watch how I do this, watch the website daily.

I expect every one of my students to give me his/her comment.  I can use your inputs and maybe you can learn how to be successful at the same time.  Even if I fail at some of these, success can follow.

So, stay tuned and throw in your comments for good luck.  Don't be shy and don't be afraid to be negative.

A New China and White Hair

Like about 50 million other people in the world, I made the trek from People's Square to the Bund twice during the holidays, and by the looks of everything I see, I say it's a new China.

2007 marks the new world in a lot of ways, and I'll describe the marks here.  First, you see cars everywhere...privately owned ones.  Second, modern retail stores, the kind with excellent marketing techniques have spung up just this year.  Third, there is more importing from the Western world into China.  Fourth, and the biggest:  riches.  I see a lot more money flowing, and a bigger line drawn between the classes.  No matter how you look at it, and there many other signs of the times, China, and maybe the entire world has gone through some sort of time barrier...an evolution of humanity if you will.  It's better.

And, my hair is turning completely white!!  I can't believe it!

All of this didn't come as a surprise to me.  Back in 2002, I predicted all of this (the China part, not my hair) would happen.  Though I haven't really taken advantage of the new markets, it's a tribute to my education and prediction skills as a businessman to still be able to call the shots.

What about my hair?  Let me think.....hmmm.....I'll cut it very short, then I'll die it....wear hats.....my gosh.....I hate this growing old shit!

Leaving China: An End To An Era

At the end of October I will leave China.  It's an end of an era in many contexts as I review the stay with some consternation.  After six long years there are those who thought I would never leave.  I never had any doubts on the other hand.

As I look back on my stay I realize it was the best of times and the worst of times.  The worst of times can be summed up as a failure to accomplish my goal:  making money.  The best of times is best reviewed as a return to some of the things I really enjoy in life, like radio, where I hosted the radio show, Live It Up Shanghai, on 93.4 FM with Kevin Wu; it was the peak of the stay, for sure.  Writing a couple of articles for newspapers around reminded me that I enjoy being an author as well.  Of course, the top of the list is my girlfriend, Ying Ying who made it all worth it.  Will she go back with me?  It all depends on my ability to get the cash flowing in the states.

A good summary about the trip might be this:  I stayed about five years too long, for one.  My attitude about Asia was basically enforced, I never really liked the lifestyle, the food, the attitudes, or the inhibition of freedom.  As it turned out, I wasn't too surprised about much of anything I have seen in China.  I could have accomplished the same thing in about two month's stay.

What's next?  Dallas, Texas to pick up my stuff and then...I hope to land in southern California...and ....who knows?

To be continued.
